Regarding that meeting of leaders in support of Ukraine, what Nikkei reports is that she "emphasized that she would work to support Ukraine, LIFT sanctions against Russia, and assist Ukraine in its recovery and reconstruction." Was that a typo? I don't quite see how lifting sanctions against Russia helps Ukraine or brings the war closer to an end.

I was listening to Mark Galeotti's latest podcast where he ask if Russo-Japanese relations are or will be warming up. His argument is that Japan is dependent on Russian LNG and that Abe had a very close relationship with Putin, as they met 25 times. [By the way, didn't Abe's widow travel to Moscow recently?] Other than Sanseito, is there currently a conservative faction naive enough to think that Russia can be a counterweight to China and North Korea for Japan?
